To install OpenVPN GUI for Windows on a Microsoft Windows XP, follow the steps below:
1. Download the OpenVPN installation file “openvpn-2.1.1-install.exe” from HERE.
2. Double click on the "openvpn-2.1.1-install.exe" fle and start with the installation. Select the default options and confirm the installation of the TAP-Win32 Adapter V8 device (it is a Virtual Ethernet interface used by OpenVPN).
3. When the Installer has finished successfully, go to the [Start]->[All Programs]->[OpenVPN]->[OpenVPN -GUI] and create a desktop icon for it.
4. Go to [My Computer]->[C]->[Program Files]->[OpenVPN]->[config]. You will be in folder:
C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config
in which you must copy all the config files and have unzipped in step 1 above.
5. At this point, you have finished the install of the OpenVPN client and its GUI.
6. Start the OpenVPN Client by double clicking on the newly created OpenVPN-GUI icon on your desktop; now the tray bar contains the OpenVPN icon with two red terminals and the Earth Globe symbol. Such terminals are yellow when OpenVPN is trying to establish the connection and they are green when you are finally connected with the VPN;
7. By right-clicking on the OpenVPN icon in the Tray bar appears a contextual menu with several useful options: Connect, Disconnect, Show Status, View Log, Edit Config, Proxy Settings. Particularly useful to solve connection problems is the item View Log that allows to know the reason of the failures.
8. Right-click on the tray bar OpenVPN icon and select Connect from the contextual menu to start the openvpn client.
9. Connection establishment dialog would start, asking you for login and pasword.
10. Enter the login and password.
11. Connection should establish successfully and the connect window would disappear after success. If not then there is something wrong with the installation steps. Please refer to the screenshots page for verifying similar installation screens and setup procedure.
